A survey of modern theater and ballet set and costume design, with work by Bakst, Leger, Braque, Chagall , et al. No. 408 of 600 copies. Wraps with pictorial bound-on dust wrapper. About 200 pages, 38 of which are illustrated text with 4 pochoir vignettes, followed by 130 plates (including 13 full page prints in pochoir color). Original pictorial wrappers, spine largely perished (as usual) with silver tape reinforcing same. An art deco period masterpiece. Bears an unsigned 1930 caligraphic inscription in pencil "to my own dear Lee", on front flyleaf. Major color pochoir plates by Fernand LEGER, Georges DE CHIRICO, Georges BRAQUE, Pablo PICASSO (2 Plates), BENOIS, Marie LAURENCIN, Yves ALIX, BARSACQ, Jean HUGO, Andre BOLL, Raoul DUFY, Robert FEAU , many of Ballets Russes productions. First Edition . Some of the pochoir illustrations, such as the deChirico, contain the artist's signature, as part of the illustration matrix. Very good condition (spine repair excepted)-plates are in fine condition. No foxing or other such defects sometimes seen.
